What it is

What is the Standard Progressive Matrices?

The Standard Progressive Matrices is the classic version of Raven's Progressive Matrices. It shows black-and-white patterns, each with one piece missing, and asks you to pick the option that completes the pattern.

It is called 'progressive' because the questions start simple and get steadily harder. This lets one test measure a wide range of ability, from school age to adult.

Who takes it

Who takes the SPM?

The SPM is used with the general population — in schools, in research, and in some selection settings. It suits most people from about age 6 upwards and sits between the easier Coloured version and the harder Advanced version.
