Matrix Reasoning Test

Chapter 3 of 8

Movement

The shape keeps its form and changes where it sits.

Start here — one guess

Look at this for 20 seconds. What goes in the empty cell?

The tell: one small marker is in a different spot in each cell. Everything else stays still. Follow the marker's path and you've found the rule.

?

Pick one. Nothing is scored and nothing is saved — the guess is the point.

The family in one sentence

Movement: a marker changes position across the cells; nothing else changes.

One marker — a dot, a small shape — steps from place to place. The shape itself doesn't turn, grow, or recolour. Only its position moves. Your job is to follow the path and say where it lands next.

Position advances in a straight line

A marker stepping along a straight path, one place per cell — the figure stays put, the position moves.

What Movement looks like

  • One marker (or two) changes position cell to cell. Everything else is constant.
  • The path is the rule. The patterns differ only by what path the marker follows:
  • Translation — the marker slides in a straight line, often wrapping to the other side.
  • Orbit / position cycle — the marker steps around the perimeter, clockwise or counter-clockwise.
  • Position-Latin — the marker visits each position once per row and once per column.
  • Bouncing path — the marker moves until it hits an edge, then turns back.
  • Accelerating step — each move is one place longer than the last.

The course

This chapter is a lesson in the Matrigma Prep Course

The course carries the same eight chapters as ten pattern lessons, each with a guided think-through, a drill of unseen questions and a quiz, plus the full practice tests and your readiness report. Enrolling is free; full access opens the paid lessons.

Where to practise

The drill serves ten movement questions you have not seen, easiest first, with the explanation after every answer. The mastery check is six questions — two easy, two medium, two hard — at sixty seconds each, with no tactic on screen and no explanations until the end.
