Each question shows nine figures. Eight follow one rule and one does not. The rule may involve shape, number, position, rotation, reflection, colour, containment or a relationship between features.
The timed mode uses 20 questions in five minutes because that is the closest fit for searchers preparing for the nine-object Aon/cut-e scales ix format. The untimed mode serves a different intent: learning how to test a rule before adding time pressure.
How to work quickly
- Scan one feature at a time: count, shape, fill, direction, position and symmetry.
- Check that the same rule explains all eight conforming panels.
- If two panels appear odd, the rule is incomplete. Test a relationship or sequence.
- In the timed test, move on quickly. It is normal not to finish every question.
